The Refund Policy at Bellevue College Bookstore was established by the Board of Trustees in 2011. It is the responsibility of the Bookstore to uphold this policy and convey the deadline dates to the students through each receipt print-out. It is in the case of extenuating circumstances (such as illness, death of a family member, or an institutional error) that exceptions are granted to those who appeal for a refund after the established deadline date.
Purpose for a Refund Deadline:
The date is set so that there is time to return books to publishers and receive credit for books not sold. The publisher deadlines range from 30 days to 6 months depending on their policies. In order to treat college funds responsibly, there is a schedule that needs to be met involving inventory, permission requests and shipping each quarterly term before ordering books for the next term. Since the college is required to begin selling course materials at least 4 weeks prior to the start of each quarter in accordance with RCW 28B.10.590, this highly restricts the amount of time to return unsold materials for quarter schools. The policy is not exclusive to Bellevue College. You will find similar policies at the other 34 community colleges in Washington State.
Measures to convey a Refund Policy Notice:
The refund policy is clearly stated on every receipt and the details are also stated on the bookmark attached to every receipt. In order to bring attention in advance for students, the refund date is also posted on the counter at the registers, stated on the phone message, posted on the store website and printed in the quarterly schedule. We go to this measure of communication so that there is no confusion for the refund due dates.
